In 2009, during my first month at Huawei, I received an email that looked like a forward in Chinese. Out of curiosity, I translated it and discovered it was about a project. I was assigned to work on my first Packet Core project with T-Mobile Croatia. I dove into the 3GPP standards, studied the product documentation, and flew out to deliver the Packet Core Gateway (GGSN).
Upon arriving at the site, I connected to the node with great excitementโonly to find that the CLI had completely changed from what I knew.
What would “Justify Karim” do? Heโd likely victimize himself, escalate the issue to his manager, and make excuses to prolong the project.
I chose to accept the challenge. Fast forward three months: I successfully concluded the delivery, received the “Star of Service Satisfaction” award, and, more importantly, discovered a new aspect of my characterโI genuinely enjoy getting things done.
